What we promise

The short version

GOTS-certified organic cotton

The Global Organic Textile Standard certifies the entire chain — growing, spinning, dyeing, stitching — against strict environmental and social criteria. A certification, not an adjective.

Azo-free, low-impact dyes

No azo dyes, no harsh chemical finishes, no optical brighteners sitting against your child's skin all day.

No synthetic blends

Organic cotton and organic cotton–linen. Nothing hidden in the weave to make it cheaper to produce.

Made in India

Designed and stitched here, in small runs, for children between two and six.

01 — Comfort

Onam in Kerala is thirty degrees and humid.

Most children's festive wear in this country is polyester with a zari trim. It looks the part in the photographs and it is miserable by eleven in the morning — hot, static, scratching at the neck and the wrists.

Ours is organic cotton and cotton–linen. It breathes. There are no synthetic blends, no stiff linings, and nothing sharp sewn into a collar.

Dressy enough for the sadya. Soft enough for four hours on the oonjal.

02 — What it's made of

You read the label on their food.

When did you last read the one in their clothes?

Ours starts as GOTS-certified organic cotton — a standard that covers the whole chain, from how the cotton is grown to how it is spun, dyed and stitched. Not “cotton-rich.” Not “cotton blend.” Certified.

The dyes are azo-free and low-impact. There are no harsh chemical finishes. It is grown and made in India.

03 — Longevity

Made to be washed, not saved.

Sambar. Payasam. Avial. And a white outfit. We know.

These are not clothes to be kept in tissue paper for one morning a year. Organic cotton softens with every wash rather than stiffening — which is why the good ones get handed down, and why the polyester ones end up at the back of the cupboard by December.

Not a costume they'll wear once. A wardrobe they'll wear all year.

04 — Onakkodi

Some traditions don't need explaining.

You just hand them over, folded.

The Onakkodi has always come from the elders of the house — placed in small hands on Thiruvonam morning, worn straight out to the pookalam. It is the one gift of the year that nobody has to be persuaded to give.

All we would ask is that the thing being handed over is worth the gesture.

The ten days

Atham to Thiruvonam

Twenty pieces. One palette.

Cream, white and soft stripe — the colours of Onam, in clothes they can actually run in. Sizes 2–3, 3–4, 4–5 and 5–6 years.

Pookalam

The flower carpet is not made in one go. A ring is added each morning from Atham, so it grows for ten days and is at its widest on Thiruvonam.

Onasadya

The sadya is served on a banana leaf, tip pointing left, and eaten with the right hand. The order things are laid out matters more than the count.

Onakkodi

New clothes are given on Thiruvonam morning, before the sadya — which is why they need to survive a long lunch, not just a photograph.

Questions

Before you order

Will it arrive before Thiruvonam?
Order by Wednesday 19 August and it reaches you before Thiruvonam on the 26th. After that we can't promise the date — and an Onakkodi that turns up on the 28th isn't really an Onakkodi. Orders are dispatched within 24–48 hours.
What size should I order?
We make four sizes: 2–3, 3–4, 4–5 and 5–6 years. Sizing is true to age with a little room to grow — if your child is between sizes, or you'd like it to last past Onam, size up. Full measurements are on every product page.
What does GOTS-certified actually mean?
The Global Organic Textile Standard certifies the whole chain — the cotton is grown organically, and the spinning, dyeing and stitching all meet strict environmental and social criteria. It is a certification, not a marketing word. “Organic cotton” on a label without it can mean very little.
Is it comfortable in Kerala's August?
That is precisely what it is made for. Organic cotton and cotton–linen breathe; polyester does not. No synthetic blends, no stiff linings, no scratchy zari trims.
Can I use ONAM15 on the sets?
Yes — ONAM15 is 15% off everything on the site, with no minimum spend, until 28 August. One use per customer.
What if the fit isn't right?
Reach out to us and we'll sort it. Our full returns and exchange policy is linked in the footer of every page.
